ORKESTAR LJUDMIL RUS

The Ljudmil Rus Guitar Orchestra was founded in 1963 by the renowned guitar pedagogue Ljudmil Rus, at only 30 years of age. For many years, the orchestra operated and performed under the auspices of the Franc Šturm Music School in Ljubljana, where he was also employed. Since 2008, the orchestra has continued its work as a cultural and artistic society bearing the name of its founder.

The orchestra has been active and performing continuously for over 60 years, making it one of the oldest ensembles of its kind in the world. Throughout its history, more than 100 guitarists have been part of the ensemble, some of whom went on to pursue professional musical careers. With his immense positive energy, Professor Rus inspired generations of young musicians. In addition to leading the orchestra, he composed numerous arrangements and original works, creating an extensive body of work over the years. His compositions are distinguished by refined musical understanding and a strong sense of arrangement, always expressing what was in his heart while leaving room for humor.

The orchestra has participated in numerous performances and competitions, including notable appearances in Gorizia (Italy), Viareggio, and Belgrade. They have also given many concerts in Slovenia, including performances at the Slovenian Philharmonic, the National Gallery, and the Španski borci concert hall. At the end of December 2021, the orchestra members bid a final farewell to their professor—in the manner most fitting for him, through the guitar. His music continues to live on with them to this day.
